Independent Advocacy North East Celebrates 22 Years of Advocacy in North Tyneside

IANE recently celebrated their 22nd year of providing advocacy support to disabled people in North Tyneside; by hosting a Mary Berry inspired amateur bake off at their Annual General Meeting.

Staff and members were joined by two special guest judges ‘Pansy and Tulip’; the ugly sisters in Whitley Bay Pantomime Society’s production of Cinderella.

At the event IANE thanked the Citizen Advocate volunteers for their dedication and selfless giving of their time by providing advocacy support to vulnerable people in our local community. ‘Pansy and Tulip’ in their own wonderful style and grace presented some of our volunteers with long service awards and after tasting many delights presented the winner of the bake off ‘Pat Wigmore’; with a family ticket to the January production.

Chief Executive Officer – Debbie Shelton said “Although our AGM is an official meeting, this was a fantastic example of community cohesion at its best, by bringing together many members of our North Tyneside family. We have all enjoyed tasting all the delicious bake off entries and been thoroughly entertained by ‘Pansy and Tulip’; we cannot wait to see them in action in January.”

The volunteers awarded are Karen Macgregor, Emma Grimwood, Mel Bryce, Karen Reed, Sarah Stanworth, David Pygal, Linda McIntyre, Elspeth Kirkwood, Richard Lee and Kerry Shields.
