We are really pleased to be one of two charities in the North East to be given a Weston Charity Award. Independent Advocacy North East (IANE) and Carers Trust Tyne & Wear are announced as 2018 Weston Charity Awards winners and will receive a core grant of £6,500 and a year’s strategic planning support.

The Weston Charity awards celebrate and support great front-line charities in the North of England, the Midlands and Wales with incomes under £5 million. The charities need to be delivering youth, welfare or community services. Nearly 200 small charities applied and IANE and Carers Trust Tyne & Wear are among just 20 winners.

Debbie Shelton, Chief Executive of IANE said:

“We are delighted to be a Weston Charity Awards winner. We are proud of the work we do to enable the voices of vulnerable people in and around North Tyneside to be heard through the provision of a range of independent advocacy services tailored to the needs of individuals.

The support we will receive through the Awards will help us improve our strategic planning, strengthen our governance, and maximise the use of our stats and records to support our fundraising. We are ambitious to expand our service to make a difference to a larger number vulnerable people in North Tyneside for many years to come.”

*Carers Trust Tyne & Wear (based in Rowlands Gill) offers support to those providing unpaid care to a relative, partner or friend within the Gateshead area.
